ART i 

ART i 

This is a studio art class with an emphasis on drawing and painting. Students will study and explore the Elements of Art through project based learning in the way of  the creation of artworks. In addition to drawing and painting, students will explore other art processes such as: foam block printing, sculpture with varying media, critiquing and writing about their own art. 
 

ART 2

 
Art 2 has a prerequisite of having completed and passed Art 1. Art 2 is a studio class in which students will continue to demonstrate their understanding of the elements of art through project based learning. Students will also be introduced to the principles of design and how these impact their artworks. This class includes painting, drawing, lino block printing, sculpture with varying media, critiquing and writing about their own art. 
CHOIR

CHOIR

This course is designed for all middle school students who like to sing!  The class will develop the skills necessary for ensemble singing of music appropriate for middle school voices and in reading music notation.  This group will have multiple required performances during the year.  No prior singing experience is necessary.  This is a year long course! 
CONCERT BAND

CONCERT BAND

This course is designed for the beginning to intermediate middle school band student with 0-2 years experience. Instruments offered include flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion (drums).  This class will develop musicianship skills through the study of chosen literature in all genres of music and will have multiple required performances during the year.  This is a year long course!
Eagle Exploration

Eagle Exploration

This is a new semester course designed to offer an elective wheel.  Students will have an opportunity to explore several areas that could include:  mindfulness, creative writing, journalism, and publications. The publications portion of the course is intended  to provide students with journalism skills necessary for the production of the school yearbook and the online school publication. 
EXPLORATORY SPANISH

EXPLORATORY SPANISH

Grade Level: 7th and 8th Grade

Prerequisite: None

This is an entry-level course.  Students will learn basic Spanish vocabulary and grammar.  Students will learn to use conversational Spanish through classroom activities that include paired and group work, games, videos, mini-presentations, and projects. This class will flow easily into Spanish 1 so students electing to continue with Spanish 1 in 8th grade or high school will benefit from this introductory class. 
FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE

This introductory course aims to enrich students’ lives through a variety of project-based learning experiences.  It acquaints students with the career pathways connected to Clothing and Textiles, as well as Foods and Nutrition. In-class learning activities allow students to develop life-enriching skills, while showcasing their creativity and individuality. Our curriculum also provides a basis to pursue culinary courses in high school.  Students will use classroom sewing equipment to design and construct their own unique products. During their study of food science and nutrition, students will prepare and taste test an assortment of foods.  Students are requested to provide their own sewing supplies as well as a $20.00 donation toward consumable lab materials.
 
Peer Mentor

Peer Mentor

As a Peer Mentor, students will work side by side with a peer with disabilities to assist them during class time in core academics, PE or elective classes. Together, students participate in social and educational activities, expand social skills and create positive connections around campus. The class helps to overcome barriers to social inclusion, reduces stereotypes, fears, misunderstandings, and establishes friendships and larger social networks for all participants.
Jazz Band

Jazz Band

This course is designed for the intermediate to advanced middle school band student with 2-3 years experience.  Instruments offered include saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass guitar, piano and drums.  This class will develop musicianship skills through the study of jazz music and will have MANY required performances during the year.  You must complete an audition to be eligible. This is a year long course!
SPANISH I

SPANISH I

Grade Level: 8th Grade Only
 
PrerequisiteGPA of 3.0 or higher in 7th grade
                        Current 8th-grade student
 
Spanish 1 is a year-long course designed to provide students with opportunities to study basic vocabulary, learn basic verb conjugations, and ask/answer basic questions. Along with developing a stronger cultural awareness of Spanish-speaking cultures, students will be provided daily practice in the four core areas of language learning: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.  Classroom activities could include individual, paired, and group activities, skits, role plays, games, videos, projects, daily warm-ups, textbook exercises, and assessments (written and/or oral).  
 
A minimum of 25% of classroom instruction will be given in the target language.
 
NOTE: Students who take Spanish 1 and earn a passing grade of C or better will earn credit for the course which will allow them to take Spanish 2 in 9th grade.
STRING ORCHESTRA

This course is open to all violin, viola, cello, and bass students with 0-3 years experience. This class will develop musicianship skills through the study of chosen literature in all genres of music and will have multiple required performances during the year.  This is a year long course!
Video Production

Video Production

Video Production is a semester introduction course designed to introduce students to basic photography, video production, and animation. Students will have fun exploring and developing their creative expression through a series of short projects exploring cell phone photography, digital storytelling (video production), and animation.This course provides instruction and training in creating and producing the morning announcements for the school.
