Family-School Compact

Our school philosophy is that families, students, and school staff should work in partnership to help each student reach their potential. As partners we agree to the following:

As a student I will:

• Believe that I can learn and will learn.
• Come to class on time, ready to learn, and with assignments completed.
• Set aside time each day (minimum of one hour) to complete my homework.
• Know and follow the class and school rules.
• Regularly communicate with my parents and teachers about my progress in school.
• Respect my school, classmates, staff, and family.

As a parent/guardian I will:

• Make sure that my child attends school every day, on time, and with homework completed.
• Provide a consistent, structured homework time in a quiet area with needed supplies.
• Monitor computer use.
• Support the school's policies.
• Monitor my child's progress in school.
• Make every effort to attend parent-teacher conferences, Showcase Night, Back-to-School Night, and other school events.
• Ensure that my child gets adequate sleep, regular medical attention, and proper nutrition.
• Participate in shared decision making with staff for the benefit of students.
• Respect the school, staff, students, and families.

Arrivals & Departures

The school day starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. must report to the attendance office for a tardy notice. Failure to report to the office prior to going to class will result in administrative consequences. Students should not arrive at school before 7:40 a.m. On Mondays, students should plan to be off campus by 1:45 p.m., and by 3:00 p.m. on all other days.

Tardiness

All tardies are unexcused unless due to illness, medical/dental appointments, or a funeral verified by a parent/guardian. Repeated unexcused tardiness will be handled as a discipline problem, resulting in detention, merit loss, or other administrative consequences.

Appointments & Attendance

When a student is absent, a parent or guardian should contact the attendance clerk at (916) 624-3381 (option 1) or email through the school website. Notes must be brought upon returning to school if unannounced. Absences must be cleared within two weeks. If a student accumulates more than 14 days of absences due to illness, a doctor's note will be required.

Address/Phone Changes

Phone numbers and email addresses may be changed on the Aeries Parent Portal (parent.rocklinusd.org). Residential address changes must be submitted within 10 days to the main office with proof of residence.

Bicycles, E-Bikes, Skateboards & Scooters

Helmets are required by law for bicycles and e-bikes. Bikes must be walked on campus and locked in bike racks. Skateboards, in-line skates, and scooters are not allowed to be ridden on campus. Attention: Only Class 1 E-bikes are permitted on Rocklin K-8 campuses (Pedal assist only, helmet required; throttle assist, electric scooters, and electric dirt bikes are prohibited).

Personal Property & Lost and Found

Students bear sole responsibility for personal items brought to school. Unclaimed lost items are donated monthly to a charitable organization.

Pre-arranged Absences & Independent Study Contracts

When parents know their student will be away for at least three consecutive days, parents must inform the office at least two weeks in advance to request an Independent Study Contract.

Nutrition Services

Spring View Middle School is a closed campus. Leaving campus without being signed out will result in disciplinary action. Outside food delivery services (DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc.) are strictly prohibited.

Transportation & Bus Passes

Bus passes can be purchased at the Transportation Office (2225 Corp Yard Road, 916-624-9106). Misconduct on the bus will result in citations, referrals, and potential denial of bus service.

Field Trips

• Minor Field Trips: Within 150 air miles from Placer County inside CA/NV. Approved by administration.
• Major Field Trips: Over 150 air miles, out of state, or overnight. Approved by the Board of Trustees.

Volunteers & Visitors

All visitors must register in the school administration office immediately upon entering. Volunteers must undergo sex offender checks, fingerprinting (if unsupervised), and TB testing every four years.

Homework Expectations

Students should expect an average of 1.5 hours of homework daily. Homework assignments are posted weekly on Schoology.

• A: Distinguished Mastery
• B: Commendable Mastery
• C: Proficient (Minimum Mastery)
• NM: No Mark (No Credit)
• P: Passing
• X: No Grade

Academic Integrity Policy & Cheating

Cheating includes copying, using artificial intelligence, sharing test information, or using unapproved notes without proper citation.

• First Instance: Referral, classroom suspension up to 2 periods, alternative assignment (max 70% credit), parent contact, up to 3 detentions & 15 merit loss.
• Second Instance: Referral, classroom suspension, alternative assignment (0% credit), parent meeting, potential extra-curricular removal, Friday School.
• Third Instance: Referral, parent conference, extra-curricular removal, additional consequences from administration.

Promotion & Retention

Promotion is based on achievement test scores, teacher evaluations, student motivation, proficiency assessments, parent commitment, and attendance.

Library Policies

Students may borrow two books for three weeks. Fines for overdue books are $0.10 per day. Access online resources at Spring View Library Webpage.

Chromebook Policy

Students must bring an operational, charged Chromebook daily. Four (4) temporary checkouts are permitted per semester without penalty. 5th checkout results in 5 merit loss and detention. 10th checkout results in 10 merit loss and 2 detentions.

Physical Education Requirements

• Plain black shorts, leggings, or sweatpants.
• Gray Spring View PE t-shirt or plain gray t-shirt (no pockets).
• Athletic shoes and socks.
• Names must be clearly marked on clothes with last name, first initial.

Medical excuses require a signed/dated parent note (max 3 days). A doctor's note is required starting on the 4th day.

PBIS Philosophy: A.I.M. (Accountability, Integrity, Mindfulness)

Spring View PBIS focuses on pro-active procedures to prevent problem behavior and support positive school climate.

Behavior Expectations Summary

• Learning Environments: Be aware of impact, arrive on time, contribute, use materials properly.
• Break/Lunch: Maintain line place, stay in designated areas, clean up trash, walk with awareness.
• Restrooms/Lockers: Clean up, wash hands, respect privacy and facilities.
• Bus/Front Area: Dress appropriately, use crosswalks, line up respectfully, follow adult instructions.

Merit Program

Students start each quarter with 100 merits. Falling below 100 merits results in loss of quarterly extracurricular activities (dances, rallies). Maintaining 90+ merits is required for 8th-grade end-of-year events.

• Grade A: 180-200 merits
• Grade B: 160-179 merits
• Grade C: 140-159 merits
• No Mark (NM): 139 merits or below

Students may retrieve up to 30 merits per quarter via pre-approved community service (1 hour = 5 merits). Merits lost to suspension are non-retrievable.

Dress Code

Students must wear secured clothing that protects and covers personal body parts (shirts with straps, bottoms covering buttocks, footwear with soles).

Prohibited: Visible underwear, depictions of drugs/alcohol/violence/hate speech, lewd/obscene content, items obscuring the face (unless religious/health reasons).

• 1st Offense: Warning, change clothes, home contact.
• 2nd Offense: Detention, 5 merit loss, parent pick-up of clothes.
• 3rd Offense: 3 Detentions, 15 merit loss, parent pick-up.

Cell Phone Policy

Cell phones, earbuds, and smartwatch technology must be turned OFF and stored away in backpacks during school hours (8:00 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.). Speakers are prohibited at all times.

• 1st Offense: Device confiscated, returned at end of day to student, parent notified.
• 2nd Offense: Device returned to parent only, 1 day detention, 5 merit loss.
• 3rd Offense: Device returned to parent only, 3 days detention, 15 merit loss.

Qualifications for Extracurriculars

Requires a 2.0 GPA or higher, no more than one "NM" per quarter, and 90+ merits (100 merits required for dances).

Athletic Offerings

• Fall: Boys Flag Football, Cross Country, Girls Volleyball, Spirit Squad.
• Winter: Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Spirit Squad.
• Spring: Boys Volleyball, Track & Field, Girls Flag Football.

End-of-Year 8th Grade Activities

Requires a cumulative 2.0 GPA, no more than 1 NM in 2nd semester, 360+ cumulative merits for 8th grade, and 85%+ attendance.

Sexual Harassment Policy (BP 5145.7)

The District prohibits sexual harassment and retaliatory behavior. Complaints can be submitted under Uniform Complaint Procedures (AR 1312.3).

Education Code 48900 Grounds for Suspension/Expulsion

Includes physical injury, weapons possession, controlled substances, robbery/extortion, property damage, theft, tobacco/nicotine, profanity, drug paraphernalia, disruption/defiance, stolen property, imitation firearms, sexual assault, witness intimidation, hazing, and bullying (including electronic/cyberbullying).

General Expectations

Spring View Middle School agrees to jointly develop, distribute, and periodically update its School Parental Involvement Policy with parents of participating children. The policy is accessible to the local community and formatted in understandable languages where practicable.

Policy Implementation & Compact

• Convene annual Title I meetings to inform parents of participation and rights.
• Provide flexible meeting times and materials/training for home learning support.
• Educate school staff on effective two-way communication and partnership with parents.
